Union Examples

Union Operation
Combining shapes with union
Union combines overlapping shapes into a single mesh.

Simple Example: L-Shape

  1. Create two boxes
  2. Position them in an L configuration
  3. Make sure they overlap at the corner
  4. Select both → Union
Result: Single L-shaped object

Practical Uses

Building a Character

  • Body (cylinder) + Head (sphere)
  • Union creates single mesh

Creating Furniture

  • Table legs + table top
  • Multiple unions to combine

Organic Shapes

  • Overlapping spheres
  • Union for smooth-ish combinations

The Process

1. Create Shape A
2. Create Shape B
3. Position with overlap
4. Select A, then Shift+click B
5. Click Union button
6. Single result object created

Important Notes

  • Original shapes are hidden (not deleted)
  • Result is a new object
  • Name your result appropriately
  • Internal faces are removed automatically

When NOT to Use Union

  • Shapes that don't overlap (no effect)
  • When you need to edit parts separately later
  • For very complex combinations (can cause issues)
Keep it simple - union 2 shapes at a time!
