What is 3D Modeling?

3D design and modeling
3D modeling lets you create anything you can imagine
3D modeling is the process of creating three-dimensional representations of objects using specialized software. Unlike 2D images which only have width and height, 3D models have width, height, and depth.

How 3D Models Work

A 3D model is made up of:

  • Vertices - Points in 3D space (X, Y, Z coordinates)

  • Edges - Lines connecting vertices

  • Faces - Flat surfaces bounded by edges

Together, these form a mesh - the wireframe structure of any 3D object.

ℹ️ Info
Think of a mesh like a digital wireframe sculpture - the more vertices and faces, the smoother and more detailed the model!

Why Learn 3D Modeling?

3D modeling skills are valuable in many industries:

IndustryApplications
GamingCharacters, environments, props
Film/AnimationVFX, animated movies
ArchitectureBuilding visualization
Product DesignPrototypes, packaging
3D PrintingPhysical object creation
Web/AR/VRInteractive experiences

What You'll Create

In this course, you'll learn to:

  1. Navigate 3D space

  2. Create basic shapes (primitives)

  3. Transform objects (move, rotate, scale)

  4. Apply materials and colors

  5. Export models for web and 3D printing

💡 Tip
No artistic experience is needed! 3D modeling is about understanding shapes and space - skills anyone can learn.
